Retained teeth is a fairly common problem faced by dentists, especially orthodontists and surgeons.
The technique of surgical exposure of the tooth in this case is the radical removal of both, the bones and the soft tissues covering the crown by “radical surgical exposure”. The created space was analogically secured with a surgical dressing, and then an orthodontic bracket was placed on the exposed surface of the tooth crown. In this way, an “open eruption” is ensured.
Surgical and orthodontic treatment involves the surgical exposure of the tooth and placing an orthodontic element on the surface of the crown along with orthodontic traction introducing the tooth into the dental arch, which results in the correct positioning of the tooth in the occlusion (bite).
The term retained teeth refers to teeth that are fully formed with a shaped and closed root tip, remaining in the bone or in the soft tissues of the oral cavity after the period of their physiological eruption. These include, the upper canines, as in the described case. These teeth no longer show any growing tendencies.
